the serpents within
:
my time here so far

by Freja Jenkin + FaceSoul

As an artist I have been connecting with this story for over a year, and as a woman I have been experiencing this story my entire life. I would consider this sharing as the very beginning of an unfolding of what this story has the potential to be.

The Serpents Within is a body of work that aims to convey the story of a woman (herself) who has faith in her path, but how life always has something else in store. The Serpents Within is a way of describing the pains, tribulations, injustices, sickness, deep love and huge joys of what a human interacts with in their lives. It addresses the way we as humans, on an individual basis, rightly treat and manage our minds, bodies, attitudes, beliefs, feelings and emotions. How all of these experiences equate to a full life, how these experiences let us walk away with the wisdom to see another day.

By building this world for myself and others to witness, through connecting to the parts of myself that can only be expressed through movement and the depths of communication that can only be seen and felt through movement rather than articulation of language.

In collaboration with FaceSoul - musician and producer.

IMPOSTER

by BODIES IN ACTION

Join us for an evening of contemporary dance on both Friday, November 26th and Saturday, November 27th commencing at 8p.m. at FieldWorks Dance with choreography by Julian Nichols.

IMPOSTER is a work that explores the idea of what it is like you be your own greatest enemy. In a time where social media, success, and capitalism have taken the driver's seat in the present day, we, as individuals and artists are under extreme pressure to live up to the current standards of society without any essential support. This stress & anxiety becomes the overwhelming factor that drives us to get in the way of our own destiny.

About Bodies In Action:

Bodies in Action ~ enGendering Contemporary Dance based in East London is a Community Interest Company dance organisation founded by dancer and choreographer Julian Nichols. As a company, we strive to provide audiences and communities with engaging contemporary dance by hosting different classes, workshops, organized discussions, and performances. We aim to bridge the gap by including and exposing those who identify along or on the ends of the gender spectrum by challenging conventional gender roles that are the dominant factor of contemporary dance now. As physical bodies, we share our perspective through the lens of a simple, yet revolutionary idea: we stand and encourage people to live in their authentic skin without succumbing to societal pressures of conformity. The gender spectrum, as well as sexual orientation, has become polarizing in recent times, yet we, in the end, are all human. To this end, Bodies in Action promotes equality among all despite gender identity, race, age, sexual orientation, body type, and physical ability through both creations and diversity of the company.
